The Parks Family Story
It all began in West Springfield, MA when Wilbur Parks went to work for a local ambulance company doing repair work for them. At the time, Wilbur owned “Esso” Gas Stations/Repair garages that repaired ambulances and funeral cars for an ambulance company. While working at the ambulance company, Wilbur met a local Superior Coach dealer who sold both ambulances and hearses. In the early 1950’s, the New England Superior Coach Dealer asked Wilbur to work with him and take on a portion of his territory for both service and sales. Thus in 1952, Parks Superior Sales Inc. was up and running, servicing the New England territory.
By 1958, Wilbur’s efforts required more assistance and that is when he hired his son, Robert “Bob” Parks, to help in the service department. Soon after, Bob was put into sales. In 1962, Bob Parks purchased property just over the MA line in Somers, CT to live and run the business from. During the transition from MA to CT, Wilbur Parks took ill and passed away, putting the success of the business in Bob’s hands.
Continuing as a family owned and operated the business in the early 70’s, Bob Parks hired his oldest son, Bobby Parks Jr. and eventually divided the sales with Bob Parks, Sr. handling funeral cars and Bobby Parks, Jr. handling ambulances. Parks Superior continued being the leader in servicing the vehicles it sold. In 1983, Robert’s youngest son, Michael Parks, began working full-time alongside his father and brother selling both ambulances and funeral cars throughout parts of the Northeast. In 1990, Bobby Parks, Jr. was offered a position with an ambulance manufacturer and Bob Parks, Sr. was looking to retire. Michael Parks stepped in and started managing Parks Superior Sales. Early in 1991, Michael decided to only offer funeral vehicles and to become a full-service dealership with sales, leasing, service, body shop, and parts. At this time, Parks Superior Sales opened up its selection of vehicles to offer Superior Coach, S & S Coach, Federal Coach, and Eagle Coach – giving its customers the widest selection of new and pre-owned funeral cars in the country.
Spanning three generations and over sixty years, Parks Superior Sales is one of the oldest and most trusted hearse and limousine dealers in the country. Both Michael and his father, Bob Parks Sr., are extremely proud to have celebrated 62 years in business and are so grateful for the customer support. Parks Superior Sales started off by SERVICING professional vehicles 62 years ago and still today they are second to none when it comes to SERVICING what they sell.
